Turning daily engagement into preventive health
How Wellx and Shen AI make preventive health effortless—bringing daily vitals, early awareness, and healthier habits into one unified insurance experience.
A new kind of insurance experience
Most people want to take better care of their health – but life gets in the way. Appointments feel intimidating, monitors gather dust, and health checks become something people intend to do “later.”
Wellx steps into that gap by making wellbeing part of everyday life rather than a separate task. Instead of overwhelming people with goals or medical language, Wellx turns healthy actions into small wins. Walk a little more, sleep a little better, check in on your mind, or take a quick vitals scan – and you earn xCoins that convert directly into real cashback and rewards. It’s a gentle rhythm: simple actions, instant encouragement, zero friction.
Behind that experience sits the full Wellx ecosystem – the app people use daily, the incentives that keep them returning, and the intelligence layer that quietly interprets the data in the background. Insurers don’t need to stitch tools together or guess what works. Wellx gives them a complete, prevention-first foundation that turns everyday behaviors into meaningful insight and, over time, healthier populations.
“We provide the tech stack that lets traditional insurers move toward prevention. Our view is simple: all insurance is headed this way, and we want to be the platform that gets them there.”

Why vitals mattered
Before vitals were part of the picture, Wellx had already built strong engagement. Through behavioral economics and rewards, members were forming healthier routines – walking more, sleeping better, and interacting with their wellbeing in ways that felt natural and sustainable.
What hadn’t been solved yet was access. Access to simple, reliable health data that could be checked in the flow of everyday life, without equipment, appointments, or hesitation. Once that access became effortless, early awareness followed – and early awareness is where prevention begins.
So Wellx looked for a way to bring that health awareness into a person’s normal day – the same way you might check the weather, or glance at your step count.
Shen AI’s quick face scan fits naturally into Wellx’s journey. It also solved a practical challenge, providing a software-only way to track meaningful biomarkers, without shipping hardware to thousands of members or managing costly logistics. In internal comparisons, Shen AI’s blood pressure estimates closely matched cuff readings, giving the team confidence in real-world reliability. And because the solution is clinically validated, Wellx can address insurers’ accuracy questions head-on.
“Insurers ask us all the time, ‘Is it accurate?’ Being able to say we use one of the most accurate algorithms backed by clinical work makes a huge difference.”
— Vaibhav Kashyap, CEO & Co-founder, Wellx
A real moment from everyday life
Imagine a Wellx member starting their morning. They open the app, take a quick face scan – almost the same habit as checking the weather or traffic – and get an instant sense of how their body is doing that day.
Over time, regular scans make small patterns easier to notice. If readings begin trending upward, the app can encourage the member to speak with a clinician or explore a Wellx support pathway early, long before they might otherwise have acted.
The shift isn’t about becoming more disciplined – it’s about removing the friction and worry that often surround health checks, turning awareness into something simple and familiar.
Built into a larger story
Wellx intentionally positions Shen AI not as a spotlight feature, but as a quiet engine inside a larger wellbeing journey that includes:
- Behavioral rewards
- Mental health support
- Chronic disease pathways
- Lifestyle guidance
- A gamified ecosystem that keeps people engaged
- Direct access to clinical guidance and care navigation
The face scan fits seamlessly alongside these other nudges.
It doesn’t overwhelm the user; it complements them.
And because everything lives in one unified experience, Wellx helps people avoid app fatigue – no switching, syncing, or managing yet another account. Just one place that pays attention to their wellbeing.
From a technical standpoint, the integration process was straightforward. The Wellx team completed the Shen AI implementation in just a few days, folding the face scan directly into their existing user journey.
Members embraced the face scan immediately. A vitals check is rewarded with xCoins and the feature simply feels good to use. The face scan has also helped shift the emotional relationship people have with their insurer. Instead of seeing insurance as a service that only appears during claims, users experience it as a partner supporting their wellbeing day-to-day.
Why it works
Amongst the many use cases, Wellx is also using Shen AI to identify potential hypertension risk and route members into care pathways for chronic disease management – an early, preventive step that can meaningfully improve early detection, behavioral impact and improved outcomes through hyper-personalized experiences that lower claims over time such as at home care and medicine delivery.
Patterns in scanning frequency, retention, and app activity signal that vitals are now part of members’ daily or weekly rhythm. For insurers, this engagement is invaluable. It brings members into the wellbeing journey before a claim ever occurs.
In 2025, users completed nearly half a million vital checks, and usage patterns show that scanning has become a recurring habit for many members. Of those who use the face-scan health checks:
- 54% complete 1-2 scans per week,
- 30% perform scans 2-3 times per week,
- and 16% scan daily or more.
Behind the scenes, Wellx uses vitals to run experiments at scale:
Which behaviors reduce risk markers?
Which incentives create the healthiest outcomes?
Which users might benefit from earlier support?
Wellx absorbs the risk of experimentation so insurers don’t have to – and that builds trust.
Looking ahead
Wellx sees Shen AI as part of a broader shift: insurance that helps people stay healthy, not just recover financially when something goes wrong.
As camera-based biomarkers evolve – early diabetes indicators, lipid profiles, metabolic insights – Wellx expects remote monitoring to replace many costly home-visit tests. And because the experience is human-first, these tools won’t feel medical; they’ll feel normal.
“With Shen AI, we’re reforming the relationship insurers have with their customers. When you’re helping someone stay well - not just processing their claims - everybody wins.”
