Preparing your app for Apple App Store review
Preparing your app for Apple App Store review
If you plan to publish an application that uses Shen AI on the Apple App Store, it's worth reviewing how your product is presented before submitting it for review.
Apple evaluates more than whether an app functions correctly. Reviewers also look at how the application presents its features, whether users understand what the app does, and whether health-related functionality is described clearly and responsibly.
A consistent, transparent user experience can help make the review process smoother.

Describe your application clearly
Your App Store listing, onboarding screens, measurement flow, and results should all communicate the same intended purpose.
If you're building a wellness application, avoid language that suggests your app diagnoses, treats, or prevents medical conditions unless your product is specifically intended and approved for that purpose and uses the Medical Device SDK.
Instead, describe Shen AI as technology that estimates physiological measurements from a short camera-based scan and provides health insights that support wellness or health awareness. Consistency matters here. Reviewers should see the same messaging in your App Store description as they do inside the app itself.
Explain the technology in simple terms
Many users and reviewers will be unfamiliar with camera-based physiological measurement. A short explanation before the first scan helps set expectations and improves trust.
For example, explain that:
- the SDK records a short video using the device's camera,
- Shen AI analyzes subtle physiological signals visible in that recording,
- measurements are estimated from those signals,
- facial images and recordings are not stored or transferred.
Simple, accurate language is generally more effective than highly technical descriptions.
Present results appropriately
The way results are displayed is just as important as the measurements themselves.
For example, instead of presenting values as permanent health facts, frame them as estimates derived from the current measurement session. This helps users understand that results reflect the physiological signals observed during that scan rather than a definitive medical assessment.
Review the wording used on your results screen, in notifications, and in any reports generated by your application to ensure the language is consistent with your product's intended use.
Note: This is especially important for applications focused on the US market only under the General Wellness exemption. For more information, see Intended use under FDA General Wellness.
Before you submit
A final review before submission can help avoid unnecessary delays.
Confirm that:
- your App Store description matches the app's functionality,
- onboarding explains what users should expect,
- measurement results use appropriate terminology,
- required disclaimers are shown where applicable,
- privacy information and consent flows are complete.
