A stress index measurement evaluates the body’s physiological response to stress based on heart rate patterns. During a stress test, a provider may assess vital signs like heart rate, heart rhythm, and blood pressure.

Typically, a stress test is done while someone is engaging is some form of exercise, such as an incline walk on a treadmill. During this exercise, they will monitor your heart rate to understand how your heart rate changes and your body responds to stress.
