Clinical evidence and validation

Clinical evidence and validation

Clinical validation is an important part of how Shen AI is developed. Our technology has been tested in clinical studies and published in scientific papers to evaluate its accuracy and performance. Below, you can find an overview of the available evidence and see where to look for more detailed information when you need it.

Contactless Vital Sign Measurement with Shen.AI (2025)

This clinical trial report presents the validation of Shen AI's contactless measurement of heart rate, heart rate variability (SDNN), breathing rate, and blood pressure using a smartphone camera. The study compares Shen AI against clinical reference devices and evaluates performance across different recording durations. It also provides an overview of the current capabilities of Shen AI's blood pressure estimation, including both calibrated and non-calibrated approaches.

Multimodal Approach by Shen.AI Using Remote Photoplethysmography (rPPG) and Ballistocardiography (rBCG) for Heart Rate and Heart Rate Variability Prediction (2025)

This research report presents Shen AI's multimodal approach to contactless cardiovascular monitoring, combining remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) and remote ballistocardiography (rBCG). Using data from more than 5,300 participants, it shows how dynamically selecting the highest-quality signal improves heart rate and heart rate variability accuracy, particularly across different skin tones and challenging measurement conditions.

Facial video photoplethysmography for measuring average and quasi-instantaneous heart rate: a pilot validation study (2025)

This peer-reviewed study validates Shen AI's contactless heart rate measurement against ECG recordings using only a smartphone camera. Beyond confirming highly accurate average heart rate measurements, it is one of the first studies to evaluate short-term and quasi-instantaneous heart rate estimates, demonstrating strong agreement with ECG even over time windows as short as four seconds.

Estimating Heart Rate Variability Using Facial Video Photoplethysmography: A Pilot Validation Study (2025)

This paper evaluates Shen AI's ability to estimate heart rate variability (HRV) from a 60-second facial video recorded with a smartphone camera. Compared against ECG in healthy volunteers, the study found strong agreement for both SDNN and lnRMSSD, supporting the feasibility of contactless HRV assessment for wellness, recovery, and autonomic nervous system monitoring.

Contactless Measurement of Heart Rate, Heart Rate Variability and Breathing Rate Based on Facial Video Analysis (Remote Photoplethysmography) – Validation of the SHEN.AI Vitals Software (2023)

This clinical validation report evaluates Shen AI's measurement of heart rate, heart rate variability (SDNN and lnRMSSD), and breathing rate against clinical reference methods, including ECG and impedance pneumography. Based on measurements collected across smartphones, tablets, and laptops under different lighting conditions, the study demonstrates high accuracy for heart rate and breathing rate measurements, as well as strong agreement for ultra-short-term HRV metrics, supporting the reliability of Shen AI across a range of real-world measurement scenarios.
